Ko'olau/Pono Ukuleles

Ko’olau Guitar and Ukulele Company manages and oversee all Pono manufacturing. All designs and styles are patterned after their Ko'olau instruments, and manufacturing techniques are supervised by their staff in Hawaii. To reduce costs and provide a more affordable guitar and 'ukulele, they manufacturer their Pono line of instruments on the island of Java, southwest of Hawaii, and a few hundred miles northwest of Australia. Ko'olau staff are personally involved in each phase of production, spending considerable time personally overseeing operations. Skilled craftsman at the Java factory have been building guitars and 'ukulele for many years. Pono instruments are not simply a cheap “import” but instead, made with the same pride and integrity as the Ko'olau models. The second phase of manufacturing involves extensive final set-up and quality control in Ko'olau's Wahiawa factory on Oahu.

Interesting, unusual, and exotic woods from the beautiful forests of the south pacific islands. On the ebony model we use curly Koa top and back binding. Rope marquetry purfling, and an abalone rosette inlay. Ebony faceplate, fingerboard, and bridge. Bone nut and saddle. Pearl logo and fingerboard position dots, Grover mini-rotomatic tuners with ebony buttons. Ko'olau Gold Strings, gloss finish, and includes a Ko'olau Hardshell Case. Includes a Pono saddle transducer pickup.
